Thanks Larry!
The best camp I've been to and worth the 4hr flight to come out to Placid. It's my kind of camp - solid workouts and lots of fun afterwards! Looking forward to next year. Thanks for the Hammer referral too - ordered a whack of stuff for IMC.
Take Care,

Larry,
Just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks again to you and all the others
who helped put the training camp together. This was my first camp and first
Ironman. I had three goals on race day:
1) Finish
2) Reasonably finish in 12 hours
3) Unreasonably finish in 11:30 hours
I finished the race in 11:34:21.
A HUGE reason I was able to pull this off was your camp. Although there are
many reasons for its benefit to me I'd like to share with you the two that
standout for me.
The first was "weather training". I was the guy who went out with Shane,
Tara, and I think Andrew for the my second loop. While everyone else seemed
to share they got 10 minutes or so of rain, the four of us somehow managed
to stay under the storm cell for almost 90 minutes include the entire
descent from the Cobble and all the way on the flats to Upper Jay. I was
cold, miserable, and wanted to stop riding. If it wasn't for going through
this pain in advance and having some great people to ride with (big thanks
to Shane, Tara, and Andrew) I wouldn't have had the race day I did. Because
of this I came prepared with proper attire and the mentality that I had
ridden the most dangerous part of the course in the rain already and
survived and I could do it again.
The second was your advice "race by feel". At the dinner you said, "don't
rely on the gizmos too much. Heart monitors are fine and all but be able to
race by feel." I trained for 7 months using a Garmin 305 GPS which told me
everything: speed, cadence, % grade of climb, heart rate, you name it, it
told me. I had it all right at my fingertips! Apparently, however, the
Garmin 305 is not water tight. At mile 35, first it flickered, then it
died. For a brief moment I panicked wondering how I could continue without
having access to all this critical information I'd come to rely on. Then I
remember your advice. "Race by feel."
I did. And had the race of my life.
Thanks, Larry!
Sincerely,

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT PUT TOGETHER THIS CAMP!
I never expected to have so much fun, to get so much support on and off the course, to be so inspired or to laugh that hard.
This was an exceptional weekend that makes me want to go to camp every year, even if I am not doing LP in the future. I look forward to seeing my new friends in a month.
Good luck to all the racers.
Awesome!

Larry,
I don’t know how you do it a full weekend of organized support, great volunteers, and awesome barbeque. The dinner at the Plaza was off the charts, informative, funny and the best gift bag of any race I have ever entered!
Thank you again to all your volunteers who cheered us on at all the aide stations with smiles and encouragement. I will be at camp next year and every year whether I am doing the race or not.
Thanks so much!

Hey Larry,
Thanks for a great camp! First time doing Lake Placid, was great to get experience on the course and to have the support you guys had with Hammer Nutrition and gels etc.
Awesome party and bonfire. Next year I will be taking requests before the Camp so I can learn songs that everybody wants, this way the "Larry and the Gimp Band " can really rock .
Thanks again,
Tommy |
